The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system has opened 19 school cafeterias this week to serve FREE meals to students 18 years or younger, as part of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. The goal of the program is to help fight childhood hunger. Flags at government buildings have been lowered to half-staff in memory of former Governor Jim Holshouser who passed away on Monday. He was 78. Holshouser, a Boone native, was North Carolina’s first Republican governor elected in the 20th century.
