Luke Hampton, the senior at Alleghany High School, who suffered a severe neck injury during a wrestling meet last Saturday (Dec 03) will be transported to a Spine and Brain Trauma Center in Atlanta later today for further treatment.   FYI: You can help the family of Luke Hampton with medical costs by making donations at any State Employees’ Credit Union.  (WXII)

Hospitals are NOT as scary as kids think.   That’s the lesson learned by students fromTriadBaptistSchool during a special tour ofKernersvilleMedicalCenter yesterday.  Students enjoyed learning about what happens if and when you have to go to the hospital by way of a Teddy Bear clinic.  News 14 carolina reporting that the class fromTriad Baptist School also donated 50 teddy bears to help other kids feel better when they are in the hospital.

Police say the state’s gang population is steadily growing. Earlier in the week, members of the Latin Kings in Greensboro made their first court appearance after a grand jury indicted them on federal racketeering charges. The Better Business Bureau is warning local businesses of another email scam.  The email contains “Complaint from Your Customer” in the subject line plus a fake BBB address and logo.  Appears that the scammers are trying to get any financial info from the targeted business.

The man who started the foundation that helped fund Brenner Children’s Hospital has died.  Abe Brenner was 93.  The Greensboro News /Record reporting that Brenner’s funeral will be held today at 11am at Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem.   

The parents of a young model and fashion magazine editor are praising Jesus Christ for saving their daughter’s life.  23 year old Lauren Scruggs had been checking out the Christmas lights aroundDallas, by plane.  The single-engine plane landed safely…when somehow as she was exiting the plane…Lauren walked toward the propeller of the plane. Lauren’s left hand was severed, as well as severe damage to her face and shoulder.   Lauren’s parents are still in shock about what happened.  “We just want to give great glory to God” (during this difficult time).  Lauren’s father on Good Morning America sharing that his daughter’s “relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in her life. In a surprise move yesterday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius rejecting a request by the FDA to lower the age requirement for teen girls and over-the-counter access to the Plan B – One Step contraceptive pill.  The FDA had given the OK for the controversial morning after pill to be available to girls 16 years old and younger without a prescription.  FYI: The pill will still be available to teen girls 17 years and older.  www.cbn.com/cbnnews/healthscience/2011/December/Plan-B-Could-Become-Available-to-Young-Teens/

 Actor Harry Morgan has died.  He was 96 years old. Morgan was best known for his TV roles on ‘Dragnet’ and as Col. Potter on MASH.  Also singer songwriter, Dobie Gray has died.  He was best known for his hit song “Drift Away”.
