Once again, a senseless tragedy has struck and people around the world are left with aching hearts and spinning heads.
I will never, ever understand (this side of heaven) why God allows his children to endure such hardships. There are no good answers to the questions I have about suffering. The Lord himself tells us that we cannot rely on our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) His ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts.(Isaiah 55:8)
So, at times like this, when I have more questions than answers, I try to remember these things that I do know to be true and right and trustworthy.
-We KNOW that somehow, God will turn our pain into something good. Even our suffering will be redeemed for something beautiful. (Romans 8:28)
-We KNOW that we do not walk through our pain alone. Although we may struggle at times to feel His presence, we are promised that Jesus is with us in our pain. (Romans 8:38-39) God even keeps our tears in a bottle! He keeps a record of our pain! (Psalm 56:8)
-We KNOW that this world, and our time in it, is a drop in the bucket, a blink of an eye, compared to the glorious eternity God has planned and promised for our future. Because Jesus has defeated sin, defeated death and restored our relationship with God, we have hope for a future free from suffering, tears and pain. (Jeremiah 29:11, Revelation 21:4, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 7:27)
I share this today because maybe you find yourself in a season of suffering, or are surrounded by people in pain. At times when there are so many things that you DON’T know, maybe clinging to the things you DO know will help you to stay encouraged.
I have been working at WBFJ since September 2004 when God threw me out of the boat I was riding in and set me on a new and wonderful course. I love co-hosting the morning show, although the lack of sleep does make me a bit loopy at times.
