Wednesday Word – Nov. 28

The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.”  I love the “Season of Advent.”  It reminds me of the real reason that we celebrate “Christmas.”  Our pastor always chooses a family within the church to light the Advent candle beginning with the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and ending on Christmas Eve or the last Sunday before Christmas Day.  It always brings a smile to my face to see the little spark of light on top of the first candle and the special meaning it has in lighting the way of the world from darkness to newness, life and hope in the birth of Christ.  That is when it puts the Christmas Season in perspective for me.  The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent.  In this double focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of individuals and a congregation, as they affirm that Christ has come, that He is present in the world today, and that He will come again in power.

May God Continue To Bless You
This Christmas Season and Throughout the New Year!
