“The tongue has the power of life and death…” Proverbs 18:21a
The power of life and death are in our words. Words can uplift and encourage, comfort and console. When backed by the Holy Spirit, they can even break bondages and bring healing. However, words can also tear down and destroy. They can bring about anger and bitterness and/or depression and anxiety…which can actually lead to serious health issues!
Ephesians 4:29 tells us not to let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
I want you to take a minute and evaluate how you’re using your words each day. Are you using them to speak life over others…to encourage and uplift them, or are you using your words to tear others down, to gossip, or to complain?
If we’re honest with ourselves, I’m sure we all can admit that there’s room for improvement. After all, there’s enough negativity in our day without adding to it! Let’s be a breath of fresh air for those around us!
