Wednesday Word – April 17

I know that you, like me, have not been able to escape the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon.  The visuals are inescapable, for me, I can’t imagine how they must play over and over again in the minds of the people who were actually there.  Not only do they have the visuals, many have maimed bodies that will be a constant reminder of the evil of that day.  Then there are the three that lost their lives, completely innocent but nonetheless, they are gone at the expense of someone else’s evil, devastation, destruction, caused by a very sick heart and mind.  If we stopped there it would be an awful thing to move past.  We don’t stop there, though, because we also have visuals of people who are helping others, not thinking about themselves.  You hear story after story of people opening their homes to strangers. Stranger helping stranger, one after another, serving their fellowman in any way they could.  We see the best of others in situations were evil would want to reign, but good prevails. When I see this happening, I am thankful for those who are willing to serve.  I know you will join with me as we continue to pray that the Lord will minister to the people of Boston as only He can.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:16 (NSV)

Being thankful makes me think of another group of people that I have the opportunity of serving beside, our great volunteers!!!  April is National Volunteer Month!!!  I want to thank each of our volunteers who serve alongside of WBFJ in reaching the community.  We could never accomplish all we do without our wonderful volunteers.  Some have partnered with us for years and others for weeks, we are thankful for each of you, whatever the amount of time you serve is!!!!  You truly live by Ephesians 6:7,  Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people. I pray the Lord will bless you abundantly more than you can think, ask or imagine!!!!

One of the volunteer opportunities that we have yearly is Sharathon.  Sharathon 2013 will be taking place from Monday 5-3 through Thursday 5-9.  We have many volunteers helping out each year but we would also like to invite others.  This is your special invitation to come and be a part of Sharathon.  The only skills you have to possess are the ability to answer a phone and write.  I am sure you qualify.  We would love for you to be a part of our volunteer family!!  You can email me, for more information.
Until then let us all be found serving!!!!

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ Colossians 3:23-25(ESV)
