Celebrating the spirit of Mayberry
Thousands will visit the town of Mt Airy this week during ‘Mayberry Days’ going on today thru Sunday (Sept 24).
*Mayberry Days started in 1990 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show. The late September date was selected to coincide with the original airing of the show on October 3, 1960. The first event was only one day, but its popularity over the years has expanded it to nearly a week full of family fun and entertainment. In 2004, Andy Griffith made a special appearance for the unveiling of the TV Land “Andy and Opie” statue in Mount Airy.
-It’s believed that individuals from every state have attended Mayberry Days and at least five foreign countries represented, which demonstrates the continued popularity of the show. http://www.surryarts.org/mayberrydays/about/history.html
