Section of I-40 Westbound to Close This Weekend

GREENSBORO – A section of westbound Interstate 40 will close this weekend between the I-85 split (Exit 131) and the merge at US-29/70/220 (exit 222).

The closure is needed so crews can safely conduct paving operations and put in a traffic shift. This will improve the condition of the roadway and to make this section safer for motorists.

The closure will begin on Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m., and last through 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18.

There will not be access to I-840 North, McConnell Road and East Gate City Boulevard off I-40 during the closure. Motorists traveling through Greensboro can use the I-85/I-73 Bypass as a detour.  Motorists attempting to access U.S. 29 or U.S. 70 will also have a signed detour.

Eastbound I-40 in the same area will be closed next weekend, Sept. 22 to 24.  More details on this closure will be provided later.
