Breaking News: A State Highway Patrol trooper was fatally shot during a traffic stop shortly after midnight in Columbus County roughly 30 miles west of Wilmington.
Trooper Kevin K. Conner, an 11-year veteran, was stopping a GMC pickup truck on a speeding violation when he was shot. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
PTI is getting a new air-traffic control tower. Construction will begin early 2019, and to be completed in early 2022. *The new structure will rise 180 feet into the air, almost twice the height of PTI’s current tower that was built in 1974.
Canada is now the largest country with a legal national marijuana marketplace. Sales began early today in Newfoundland. *Medical marijuana has been legal in Canada since 2001. Canada will pardon all those with convictions for possessing up to 30 grams of marijuana, the now-legal threshold.

Rare Neurological ‘Mystery Illness’
A rare condition causing weakness in the arms or legs – and sometimes paralysis – has been confirmed in 62 children so far this year. The rare neurological condition is called acute flaccid myelitis (FLA-sid MY-uh -LIE-tis) , or AFM.
The condition happens in fewer than one in a million children in the U.S. So far this year, cases have been confirmed in 22 states including North Carolina.
