UPDATE: Northern Guilford High School changes its Dress Code Policy after hundreds of complaints from parents and students. The revised dress code has ‘eliminated the gender-specific language, so it no longer refers to tops girls can wear and what length they are and what they can and cannot show…it refers to types of clothing.” In its new policy, Northern Guilford also emphasized that students cannot wear hats or headwear of any kind, but included an exception for religious reasons. http://goo.gl/Q5Dtos

 

Rio Update for Wednesday

(NEW) Paul Chelimo won his 5,000 meters semi-final this morning, with his time of 13 minutes and 19 seconds the fastest of the 51 runners in the two heats.

The 25 year old runner is a 2014 UNC-Greensboro alumnus and a member of the U.S. Army ‘World Class Athlete Program’.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is keeping an ‘eye’ on a new tropical disturbance. There is a 90% chance of this depression becoming a tropical storm.  BTW: The next name on the Atlantic Storm name list is “Fiona”.

 

Fresno City College is trending with a new Phys-Ed course this Fall?

“Pokemon Go” with a focus on walking. Here’s the deal…

“This course will use the Pokemon Go app to promote fitness through walking and finding Pokemon’s on campus.” The class is held Mondays through Thursdays from 9 to 10:25am, if you’re in California and not busy. NOTE: You have to provide your own smartphone.”  http://go.witf.org/hRQW3036gqc

 

2016 ‘Back-to-School’   Back-Pack Bash

Mount Zion Baptist Church in partnership with the Greensboro Police Department will be giving away +5,000 Book Bags this Saturday (August 20) beginning at 9am at the Greensboro Coliseum all part of the Community Back 2 School Bash.  The event is free and open to public. -Gymnastics / Floor exercise: Simone Biles and Aly Raisman gaining gold and silver for the US…

-Christian Taylor won gold in the triple jump, and teammate Will Claye came in second.

**Brazil beat the US women’s beach volleyball team of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross, ending the run for the gold for the US team. -Jennifer Simpson of the United States took bronze in the women’s 1,500 meters, the first woman from the US to ever medal in the event.

 

Wednesday in Rio…

The American women are in the 100 meter hurdles.

Ashton Eaton defends his decathlon title as well as Brittney Reese in the long jump.

The USA men’s basketball team vs Argentina in the quarterfinals.

 

 

Cato Institute: Latest report ranking states by ‘freedom’    

               *North Carolina moves up to #19…

The study from the Libertarian Think Tank scores all 50 states on their overall respect for individual freedom reflecting over 200 policies encompassing fiscal policy, regulatory policy, and personal freedom (including factors such as labor laws, crime arrests and taxes).

BTW: New Hampshire was found to be the “most free” state

New York was deemed “least free” state…
