A Hospice of Davidson County patient received his honorary master’s degree at his Lexington home last Friday, just days before he passed away. Joseph Ferguson received his Pfeiffer University Masters of Health Care Administration degree early. Joseph had been on track to graduate in August but he wasn’t able to finish due to declining health. Joseph passed away peacefully on Monday morning. He was 52. Ferguson, a father of four children and five grandchildren, proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 18 years, receiving the Good Conduct Medal.
“Receiving my diploma brings me great pride. I thank and appreciate God for the blessings that I have,” Ferguson said, “I take every day, one day at a time and try to be the best that I can be.” https://goo.gl/tP62kv
American Academy of Pediatrics announces new safe sleep recommendations to protect infants against SIDS
-Recommendations call for infants to share their parents’ bedroom for at least the first six months and, optimally, for the first year of life, based on the latest evidence.
-Infants should sleep in the same bedroom as their parents – but on a separate surface, such as a crib or bassinet, and never on a couch, armchair or soft surface—to decrease the risks of sleep-related deaths.
-Skin-to-skin care is recommended, regardless of feeding or delivery method, immediately following birth for at least an hour as soon as the mother is medically stable and awake, according to the report. https://goo.gl/fd67AF
