So is it ‘safe’ to swim in the ocean at Myrtle Beach?
Short answer: Yes! The beach is not closed. All of the Myrtle Beach/Grand Strand coastline is open for swimming. SC Health Department has posted advisory signs at the request of the City of Myrtle Beach because of elevated bacteria at stormwater discharge locations.
-The swimming advisories are only for the areas directly adjacent (roughly 200 feet) from pipe run off.
–Each Swim Advisory is short-lived, bacteria levels generally return back to normal range within a day or so.
-Water is tested May 1 – October 1 when the weather is most conducive to bacteria growth. http://goo.gl/F4o7ah
