Seriously?  Smoke from those California wildfires is bringing a ‘hazy sky’ to North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service. Much of the smoke will be in the mid to upper atmosphere.  Good News: The air quality is still expected to be good at ground level. –National Weather Service


Charitable Giving on the Rise in North Carolina.  In the 2017-18 report, charities and non-profits that use professional fundraising services received over $45 million.

Bottom Line: More money is being given and more of a donation is being used for the charity’s cause This year’s net percentage of donations going to charities = 70% percent



The city of Winston-Salem has banned those electric scooters.  The city has to figure out how it wants to regulate the scooters; the scooter companies — only one, Bird, is here so far — have to decide whether they can live with the ‘new’ rules. City Manager Lee Garrity predicted that the scooters will return maybe as early as in the spring.

EGGER has already committed to hiring hundreds of employees over 6 years while officially kicking off its Apprentice Training Program with Davidson County Community College. This ultramodern particleboard manufacturing plant is set to open in 2020.



Beware of the “Secret Sister Gift Exchange”?

The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about the “Secret Sister Gift Exchange” again this year. Social media posts about the ‘exchange’ first began circulating in 2015 and have begun popping back this holiday season.

Here’s the deal: People who participate will receive 36 gifts for sending one gift that’s valued at $10. Next, you invite others to participate and you’ll allegedly receive information on where to mail your gifts.

Warning: The BBB says Secret Sister – and gift chains like it-  are pyramid schemes and Illegal. If you participate in illegal gambling, you could be subject to mail fraud.



Arrangements for Clyde Fitzgerald, the former head of Second Harvest Food Bank, have been released. Services will be held next Monday (Nov 26) at 2pm at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in downtown Winston-Salem. Donations can be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. Clyde Fitzgerald passed away last Sunday morning.  He was 74. www.hungernwnc.org.

The President and First Lady taking a photo op with the official White House Christmas tree on Monday. The 19½-foot tall Fraser fir was grown on a farm owned by Larry Smith of Newland, North Carolina. The NC Frasier fir will be placed in the Blue Room, where it will become the centerpiece of Christmas at the White House.
