The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that young children play outside as much as possible, for at least 60 minutes a day. But, new research revealing that only HALF of 3 to 5 year olds in the US are taking advantage of the great outdoors. The Winston-Salem State Rams finished 13-1 last season, won the CI-AA championship and reached the NC-AA Division II semi-finals. Winston-Salem State University is looking to build on its most successful football season ever,by holding a clinic designed to help ‘educate women and men’ on the ends and outs of college football. The Deborah Reaves Football Series starts today and runs through Thursday at the Thompson Center at WSSU. Some of the things that will be covered during the clinic include football terminology and the general rules of the game. The football clinic is modeled somewhat after the Jim Grobe Women’s Football Clinic at Wake Forest University. Coach Maynor and some of his staff will join the clinic and answer questions. Longtime Clemmons Village council member Chris Jones passed away Monday after being critically injured in a fall at his home. Jones was 70 years old. A memorial service is planned on Wednesday at 10am at St Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. www.journalnow.com
