More than 1 in 10 parents are skipping or delaying their kids’ shots, mainly because of safety concerns. By age 6, children should have vaccinations against 14 diseases, in at least two dozen separate doses, theU.S.government advises. Worries about vaccine safety were common even among parents whose kids were fully vaccinated: 1 in 5 among that group said they think delaying shots is safer than the recommended schedule. More than 100 pieces of historic silver and jewelry were stolen from the Cooleemee Plantation in Davie County over the weekend . The historical landmark was broken into sometime after 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Ralph Steinman, a pioneer in understanding how cells and the body’s immune system fight disease, passed away last Friday after a four year battle with pancreatic cancer.   On Monday, Steinman was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine. The Nobel committee, unaware of his death, announced the award yesterday inStockholm. Steinman’s employer,RockefellerUniversityinNew York, learned of his death after the Nobel announcement. Friends and colleagues were stunned by his death.
