Local Hero

We have a local hero:  An 11-year-old girl is credited with making the 911 call that saved a Davidson County family’s house from burning to the ground.  Home owners say their 11-year-old niece was playing outside when she heard a loud explosion. The young girl walked towards the burning house and saw smoke so she called 911. Nobody was home at the time of the fire except for two family pets, a dog and a cat. The homeowners were able to save the pets.   www.wfmy.com

Malaysia Flight-

Plane debris found on the shore of the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean could be part of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. The plane mysteriously disappeared more than a year ago. Experts say it’s possible for wreckage to drift from the coast of Australia to where the island resides, 500 miles from Madagascar. Investigators wouldn’t say the debris is definitely from the missing plane, stating they’ll make that determination only after it’s examined and checked for identification numbers.  www.cnn.com

3 D Ultrasounds

Experts are warning women about the potential danger of getting 3-D ultrasounds of their unborn children. They believe in a normal pregnancy, there’s really no reason to have more than two or three ultrasounds, even for older women. Studies have shown ultrasounds can heat tissues slightly, while others suggest too many ultrasounds can lead to an overestimation of the baby’s size, resulting in the rise of unnecessary C-sections.  www.cbs.com
