How many times do we see John 3:16 at sporting events, hung as a banner in an end zone? The popular Bible verse was even referenced in a recent Focus on the Family TV ad during several NFL playoff games.  Last year, the American Bible Society commissioned the Barna Group to find out how well Americans understood various aspects of the Bible, including if they could identify what the numbers “3:16” mean.  Nearly seven out of 10 Americans were able to identify without any prompting from the interviewers that the “three” in (John) 3:16 refers to the chapter where the biblical reference is found.  The Barna survey even found that over half (58%) of people who are not Christians — including atheists and agnostics –in the research study understood what the “three” referenced. www.barna.org/culture-articles/558-football-faith-and-john-316?q=tebow
