FYI: So you think that April 15th comes quick?  Back in 1913, ‘Tax Day’ was on March 1st

Here are some tax tips from Liberty Tax Service for those who are waiting to file: Don’t wait until the very last day…April 15

-Check your tax forms twice: Simple mistakes can really hold things up…

-Know your options: If you owe taxes and can’t pay them, you have options.

-Don’t be scammed: The IRS will NOT contact people through email or social media and they will NOT ask anyone to pay with prepaid cards or money wires.

Tax Tips for the Last Minute Filer

Opt for direct deposit. Why wait for a check in the mail…

Can’t pay? File anyway. The IRS allows you to make payments towards what you owe and doing this minimizes your penalties.  www.irs.gov

Request an extension, if necessary. Remember, this gives you more time to submit your paperwork, not extra time to pay taxes. Submit Form 4868 to the IRS electronically or through the mail. Once you are approved, the IRS gives you an extra 6 months to submit your paperwork.

April 16:  Prepare for next year) – Avoid the stress and headache by not waiting until the last minute. Procrastination is not your friend! Instead, prepare ahead of time, keep all your important documents handy, and know what questions you want to ask your tax preparer regarding tax credits and other deductions.   http://www.libertytax.com/taxlounge/blogs/miss-liberty-tax/archive/2014/03/19/tax-tips-for-the-last-minute-filer-2147484007.aspx#.U0VXW77D-ic
