It’s “Severe Weather Awareness Week” in North Carolina. Emergency management officials encouraging everyone to create a safety plan and be ready when severe weather strikes. Today’s focus: Lightning
In a typical year there are around 500,000 lightning strikes in North Carolina. An average of 55 people are killed each year by lightning strikes.

A statewide tornado drill is planned for Wednesday morning at 9:30am. Schools and government buildings across the state will be participating.
