Traffic Alert in Winston-Salem starting tonight. The ‘ramps’ at Martin Luther King, Jr Drive from Business 40 will be closed starting TONIGHT through November because of road work on MLK. FYI: Expect heavier traffic starting next week on both Business 40 and Highway 52 through downtown Winston-Salem.

Traffic Alert: Detour because of a sinkhole. Talbert Boulevard near East Center Street in Lexington will be closed through Saturday while crews work to repair the sinkhole.

Greensboro Urban Ministry’s “Fall Grocery Store Food Drive” begins this weekend at Food Lion stores.  Volunteers from various congregations will be collecting food at participating Food Lion Stores in theGreensboro area. Next weekend, September 23-24, all other grocery stores will be participating.  FYI: All of Greensboro Urban Ministry emergency assistance funds come from private donations (not from the state or federal government). Eightschools in North Carolina have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the Department of Education. The North Carolina schools including Mount Airy High School were among 305 public and private schools across the country being honored for their overall academic excellence or for their success in closing achievement gaps. If your teen has or will get their driver’s permit before Jan. 1, they will NOT be required to keep up with how many hours they have driven before moving toward a full driver’s license. The change was approved on Wednesday. The new law requires teenagers with a learner’s permit to have signed logs showing they drove 60 hours with an adult driver before going to the next level. The state DMV needed more time to prepare for the requirement.
