Traffic Detour in Lexington: A sinkhole has closed the southbound lane of Talbert Boulevard at East Center Street. Expect a detour through the end of the day.

The NC Marriage Amendment passed in the House (75-42) yesterday in Raleigh. The Bill now moved to the Senate. If approved in the Senate, the Marriage Amendment will come to a vote by the people of North Carolina next year. A voter approved Marriage Amendment in North Carolina would re-enforce what is already defined in the State’s Constitution as Traditional Marriage (that is marriage between one man and one woman). Henry Winkler, best known as the ‘Fonz’ on Happy Days, will be in town this afternoon talking about stroke.  Actually, he will be sharing about his mother’s struggle with ‘upper limb spasticity’, an uncomfortable stiffness in the elbow, wrist or fingers. It’s often a problem for people who have had strokes. Despite the huge crowd that jammed North Main Street on Friday, the city of Mt Airy was unable to break the Guinness World record for the number of people doing “The Twist”. Organizers wanted 2,000 people to do the Twist…but didn’t make it. Around 1,600 people were ‘Twisting’ but that didn’t beat the record set last year in Glendale, California of 1,692.  (WXII)

The President will make a stop at NC State in Raleigh on Wednesday. He will be speaking about his new jobs plan. Speaking of jobs…Bank of America has announced that it will cut 30,000 jobs, the largest single job reduction by a US company this year. BOA cut 6,000 jobs earlier this year.

Two American hikers accused of being spies will be soon be released from an Iranian prison. Bail is set at a half a million dollars each. The men (Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer) have been detained in Iran for over two years. (WXII)
