The first refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war have arrived in the Triad.
-a family of four Syrian adults arrived in Winston-Salem on Wednesday.
-a family of seven refugees arrived in Greensboro on Tuesday.
More refugees are expected to arrive here in the months to come.
Local churches, organizations and community members pitch in to help refugees integrate into the community, doing everything from picking them up at the airport to helping them shop.

BTW: Organizations such as World Relief work with the U.S. State Department to resettle refugees from around the world. World Relief High Point typically resettles 400 to 450 refugees in the High Point and Winston-Salem area each year.

(Friday Night) Going ‘GOLD’ for cancer awareness…
Several buildings in downtown Winston-Salem including City Hall, the Nissen Building and the Krispy Kreme corporate office on Knollwood Street will illumine their buildings with “gold” lighting Friday night.
“Light It Up -Gold” is a campaign to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the ongoing need for cancer research.
Cancer is the #1 disease that kills children in the United States.
Brenner Children’s Hospital at Wake Forest Baptist Health is a founding member of the Children’s Oncology Group, the largest pediatric oncology collaborative organization in the world.
