It’s always heartwarming to see the heart of a child right?  In a storage room at Southwest Elementary School, old microscopes and scales have given way to cans of vegetables and boxes of pasta. Southwest is among a handful of schools in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to open a food pantry for families of its students. After months of organizing and collecting food, the pantry opened for service, to about 15 families within the school, earlier this month.  http://goo.gl/cFeFUS

Keep the people of Missouri and Illinois in your prayers:  Missouri’s governor has issued a warning, saying flooding and swollen river levels could exceed those seen since the devastating flood of 1993. Swollen rivers are still rising and won’t crest for days. The governor activated the National Guard to assist first responders and to secure evacuated areas. http://goo.gl/VuWUdH

Was this on your holiday gift list?  The Martha Stewart frying pans sold by Macy’s, they may be under recall. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says 8-inch and 10-inch stainless steel frying pans have small metal discs that help attach the pan’s handle, and they have popped off like projectiles in use, causing injuries. The pans were part of a cookware set, and should be returned to Macy’s for a refund or replacement.  http://goo.gl/emvWH0

But one in particular Olive Garden near Times Square. Their buffet, DJ and dancing will cost $400 per person But no breadsticks. The restaurant that’s famous for its bottomless bucket of bread sticks is keeping them out of sight on New Year’s Eve.  http://goo.gl/a8tzrc

Just in time to make your New Year’s Resolutions– Researchers say they may be on the way to curing our sugar cravings. They believe a hormone produced in the liver may be the answer to our sweet tooth. Apparently the hormone decreases appetite and the intake of sugar. This could be good news for diabetics, but they say the hormone won’t stop the cravings of complex carbs, like cake or pastries.
