Prayer concern: Compassion International is leaving India?
After 48 years, the child development ministry will cease operation in India on March 15. That means shutting the doors of 589 Indian-staffed development centers caring for more than 145,000 children.
*The closure comes after India changed its Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (2011) so that it could regulate NGOs it disagrees with philosophically. The move was seen by many as another step toward Hindu nationalism.
Since 2014, attacks on Christians and Muslims have increased. India is now #15 on Open Doors’ list of countries where it’s ‘hardest to be a Christian’, up from #31 in 2013.
*Almost 40% of the local Indian churches that Compassion partnered with are still working with the children, albeit without the financial support. *The local (Christian) church is not going away. They were there before us; they’ll be there after us.
*This isn’t the first time Compassion has been forced to leave a country.
In 1985, Compassion pulled out of Indonesia for 3 years. Compassion returned in 1988, and “some of the ‘students’ in the programs had become Christian pastors of the churches that helped bring them back. SOURCE: Christianity Today https://goo.gl/fsSxUq
Fact: One-in-six families (on average) will be making a major medical payment sometime this year. Economists say the average payment will be over $1,100, taking most households over a year to recover from the unexpected expense. https://goo.gl/awIfxu
BTW: Financial advisor Dave Ramsey suggests an emergency fund
– a reserve of three to six months of expenses that you set aside to cover any sudden costs such as a car wreck, hospital visit or leaky roof. www.daveramsey.com/blog/
Dermatologists: “All-Natural” and “For Sensitive Skin” can be mis-leading when purchasing skin care products. NOTE: The FDA does not regulate descriptions on skin-care product labels. That means terms such as “for sensitive skin” or “hypoallergenic” are no guarantee that a product will not irritate or cause an allergic reaction. https://goo.gl/eLUmXh
