Tropical Storm Beryl is making landfall in northeast Florida, bringing heavy rains and strong winds to the southeastern U.S. coast. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the entire Georgia coastline, as well as parts of Florida and South Carolina. Beryl is expected to bring 4 inches to 8 inches of rain to parts, with some areas getting as much as a foot. The weather system is expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia today before heading north and then out to sea. President Obama is paying tribute to the nation’s fallen warriors today, attending a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and honoring those who died during the Vietnam War. Republican candidate Mitt Romney is scheduled to appear with John McCain later today in San Diego, home to a large number of military personnel and veterans. A Bureau of Labor Statistics report found that 12.1 percent of U.S. Armed Forces veterans who served on active duty after September 2001 were unemployed. The unemployment rate for all veterans was 8.3 percent. Several closely watched states in the election have large blocs of military voters. Florida, home to several military installations, has more than 1.6 million veterans, according to the Veterans Administration. Pennsylvania has nearly 1 million veterans, while Virginia and North Carolina each have about 800,000 veterans living in their states.
Local Bluegrass Legend and Grammy Award Winner DOC WATSON remains critically ill and his family has been called to his bedside at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Your prayers for the family are appreciated.
American Idol is coming to Charlotte. Producers have announced that auditions for the show will be held JUNE 19th at Time Warner Cable Arena. Registration will be held the 2 days prior to the auditions.

11am – Memorial Service, Yadkin Co. Park in Yadkinville, NC, will include dedication of the Lance Corporal Daniel Freeman Swaim Playground (see photo). Cpl. Swaim was killed in 2005 in Iraq.
11:00am – Memorial Day Service, Lewisville, NC Location: 6555 Shallowford Rd, sponsored by American Legion Post 522. Service will include Military fly over by US Air Force.
7pm – Greensboro Grasshoppers game featuring Wounded Warriors. Wounded Warriors sponsored by Furnitureland South.
