Locally, Lowes Foods will discontinue the use of ‘lean beef filler’ (or ‘pink slim’) in their fresh ground beef products. Chapel Hill will become the first city in the nation to ban the use of cell phones while driving. The ban covers both hand held and hands free phones. The new law goes into effect on June 1st. Fines will be $25 dollars. www.journalnow.com

A new PEW religion survey finding that over 50% of those polled say that churches should keep out of politics. The survey also found that there has been too much religious talk by politicians. Thousands of people marching through Sanford, Florida yesterday afternoon still calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman that community watch volunteer who fatally shot 17-year old Trayvon Martin after an altercation. Many demonstrators wore hooded sweatshirts and carried Skittles candy — just as Martin had, on the night he was killed. Sanford authorities say they could not arrest Zimmerman under Florida’s “stand your ground” law, which allows people to use deadly force to defend themselves anywhere they feel a reasonable fear of death or serious injury. The evidence police had at the time didn’t allow for an arrest. Gallagher, best known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer, had a heart attack on March 14th. Gallagher came out of a medically induced coma last week and was released from a hospital Wednesday.
