Looking for Jesus in All the Wrong Places

I always chuckle when I hear stories in the news about people finding images of Jesus in unusual places.  A grilled cheese sandwich, the tailgate of a pickup truck and in a grease spot on someone’s garage floor are just some of the places where Jesus has reportedly been spotted.  Jesus’ mother, Mary, has also been known to make appearances in odd places.

Oh, how I love Jesus.  And I can understand why people are desperately looking for a personal encounter with Him.  But would Jesus really use a sandwich to reveal himself to us?   Where can we find Him?  According to Jesus, we don’t have to look far.  Here are his words:

“ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

 – Matthew 25:35-40 (NIV)

So, go ahead and eat that grilled cheese sandwich, Jesus isn’t there.  He’s much easier to find, especially for those of us who have accepted his gift of forgiveness and everlasting life.  So, look for him today, throughout your day.  But, don’t rely on your physical eyes…he’s much more easily seen with the eyes of your heart.

I have three awesome kids – Andrew, Carley and Laura. My husband, Alton, is a delivery driver by day with dreams of one day publishing his own comic book. Yes, he is a geek, but I love him anyway.

I have been working at WBFJ since September 2004 when God threw me out of the boat I was riding in and set me on a new and wonderful course. I love co-hosting the morning show, although the lack of sleep does make me a bit loopy at times.
