NASCAR has pushed the start of the Daytona 500 to 7pm this evening. Pain at the Pump:  Gas prices hovering around $3.70 a gallon for regular unleaded in the Triad.  According to www.gasbuddy.com the lowest gas prices in Winston-Salem: around $3.60 a gallon at Sam’s Club and Costco.   BTW: Gas prices up 30 cents a gallon nationwide over the past month.

FCA ‘March Madness’ Sports Camp is happening this weekend (March 2 – 3) for Middle and High School Boys ages 13 – 19.  The organization is still in need of a few more portable basketball goals for the event. Prayer: International worry and criticism toward Iran is growing after news that an execution order has been signed against a Christian pastor who has been detained since 2009.  Pray for the Cretzman family…The ‘going home’ celebration for 3 year old Azlynn Cretzman will be held this evening at 6pm at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown.The Cretzman family (from Ontario, Canada) are Baptist missionaries raising support to serve in Cuba.   Their 3 year old little girl, Azlynn, died last Monday morning when the family’s minivan was involved in an icy crash on I-74 in Surry County.     NOTE: You can still help the Cretzman family with funeral and medical expenses through their website ‘cretzmans to cuba . com’  http://cretzmanstocuba.com/

A BLACK-AND-WHITE SILENT FILM WAS THE BIG WINNER AT THE OSCARS SUNDAY NIGHT. The film “The Artist” won a total of five Oscars including Best Picture. Best Actress award went to Meryl Streep for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the movie “Iron Lady”.    The Best Supporting Actress award went to Octavia Spencer for her role in “The Help”.  And Christopher Plummer made Academy Awards history by becoming the oldest actor to win an Oscar, at the age of 82.   RnR

Minnesota-based Malt-O-Meal Company is changing its name to “MOM Brands”, to “better showcase” the company’s growing number of cereal options.  The company’s facility in Asheboro (one of 4 production facilities nationwide) employs 215 workers and is currently expanding.  Malt-O-Meal is a privately held, family-owned business which began back in 1919 producing one item — Malt-O-Meal Hot Wheat cereal.  www.news-record.com/content/2012/02/27/article/randolph_county_employer_changes_name

SEVEN STATES including South Carolina, Ohio and Texas HAVE SUED OVER THE CONTRACEPTION MANDATE IN THE HEALTHCARE LAW. The ADF saying that the mandate violates First Amendment religious freedom rights . The ‘Contraception Mandate’, approved earlier this year, would require religiously-affiliated institutions like colleges and universities to offer contraception and sterilization as part of their health insurance plans.
