Kids swim FREE?  There is a “hot weather special” going on at four pools in Winston-Salem. Kids age 17 and under can enjoy free admission to Reynolds Park, Kimberley  Park, Mineral Springs and Sprague pools until they close for the summer. Admission for ages 18 and over is still $3 dollars.

Sally Ride, the first US woman astronaut to orbit the earth, passed away on Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.   Ride was 61.  Sally Ride flew into space on the space shuttle Challenger on June 18, 1983, when she was 32 years old. The NCAA slamming the Penn State football program as part of the child-abuse scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. The Punishment includes:  Penn State being banned from bowl games for four years, placed on probation for five years and must ‘vacate’ every win from 1998 2011.  The school
must also pay $60 million dollars in fines. (The money will go toward a fund
for child abuse victims).  The news comes after a statue of Penn State
football coach Joe Paterno was removed from the campus over the weekend.

South Park Mall in Charlotte is expected to re-open today after heavy rains collapsed the mall’s roof in several places last Friday causing some flooding inside the mall.  WBTV reporting that there were no injuries at the mall from last Friday’s storms.
