Springtime = jobs?  Home Depot is planning to hire 70,000 new seasonal employees nationwide.  Although the positions are temporary, a seasonal position can lead to a permanent one. Food Lion will be closing over 100 under-performing grocery stores nationwide.  No Food Lion stores in the Triad will be closed.  Bottom Dollar stores in High Point and Mt Airy will be converted to Food Lion stores.  www.journalnow.com

Health officials say they have confirmed eight cases of whooping cough at an Elementary School in Alamance CountyMore than 600 people were examined for the illness by the Alamance County Health Department after the first case of Whooping Cough was identified last month at B. Everett Jordan Elementary School.  FYI:  Whooping Cough (also called pertussis) is a bacterial infection that causes severe coughing fits. (WXII)

Weather officials confirming that storm damage in Burke and Rutherford counties on Wednesday evening was caused by an EF-2 tornado.  Ten people were injured, with three people being airlifted from the area for medical attention.     The National Weather Service confirming that an EF-2 tornado has winds up to 115 mph.

In 1965:  New York Giants wide receiver Homer Jones is credited as the first player to throw the ball into the field at his feet after scoring a touchdown.  Thus the football “spike” was born.  

In 1969: Elmo Wright, a wide receiver for the University of Houston, began celebrating his touchdown receptions with a ‘celebratory’ end zone dance.  Four years later, Elmo Wright (In his third year with the) caught a touchdown pass in the Kansas City Chiefs vs Houston Oilers game (Nov. 18, 1973) and celebrated with what some believe was the first end zone dance in NFL history
