We’ve had a chilly start to the season this year, and it’s important to remember that many in our community don’t have a warm place of their own to seek refuge from the frigid temperatures. The United Way reports that around 500 men and women in Winston-Salem seek a place to sleep each night. But, until recently, lack of space at our area’s only shelter left 60 – 100 out in the cold.
Thankfully, a collaboration has formed between several area ministries to provide homeless men and women two additional warm and safe places to sleep.
Your help is needed to keep the doors of our city’s two overflow shelters open.
The shelters are located at First Baptist – Fifth St and Augsburg Lutheran. They will be open every night between now and March 31st. If you are available to help, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
I have been working at WBFJ since September 2004 when God threw me out of the boat I was riding in and set me on a new and wonderful course. I love co-hosting the morning show, although the lack of sleep does make me a bit loopy at times.
