Beauty from Ashes. After a California couple called off their wedding last week, the bride-to-be’s family decided to turn the $35,000 dollar NON-refundable event into a feast for the homeless. The bride’s parents invited 90 homeless guests in the Sacramento area to a once in a lifetime meal last Saturday at the Citizen Hotel, one of the city’s finest venues. BTW: Part of the wedding price tag included a non-refundable honeymoon, so this past Sunday, mother and daughter set off for Belize.”I hope that when she looks back at this, she knows she was doing something good with a bad situation,” Kari said.

iPod donations are needed! The “Music & Memory” program offered through Senior Services of Forsyth County is helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Donations of new or used iPods with chargers and earphones are needed for the participants to use. The program taps into deep memories that are not lost to dementia and enables the participants “to feel like themselves again” in some cases, at least for a little while.
**“Music & Memory” uses iPods with playlists compiled specifically for each participant, with music from when the individual was between the ages of 15 and 30. (Researchers believe those are the happiest years of a person’s life).
