The CEO of PayPal Dan Schulman announced today (April 5) that the company is withdrawing its plans to open a global operations center in Charlotte, due to North Carolina’s new law (HB2) that prevents local governments from passing their own anti-discrimination measures.
The state legislature moved quickly last month to overturn a Charlotte city ordnance that required “all businesses to demand that biological men identifying as women could use women’s restrooms, showers, or locker rooms” (that was the Charlotte bill). The state legislature rejected this notion (through House Bill 2) and determined that it’s up to businesses to make that determination…not government.
“That is an expectation of privacy that must be honored and respected,” Gov McCrory said recently. “Instead, North Carolina has been the target of a vicious nationwide smear campaign.”

Bottom line: PayPal’s hypocrisy knows no bounds, apparently. Check this out – Just last month, however, PayPal President and CEO Dan Schulman was recently exploring business opportunities in Cuba… no friend of human rights!
NOTE: In CUBA, Homosexuality is not illegal, but in general, Cuba has a poor record on gay and lesbian rights, and while the situation has improved somewhat, there are still high levels of homophobia and broad societal rejection of gays and lesbians. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/cuba/777919#ixzz44zF5DUms
