If I mention the names Harvey and Irma what comes to mind?
Well, Harvey and Irma Schluter – from Spokane, Washington – were in the news back in March, celebrating their 75 wedding anniversary.
Harvey turned 104 in July; Irma will be 93 in November.
Celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary back in March in in March.
Harvey went to work as a barber, Irma found life at home lonely. Both had grown up in big families and it seemed natural to begin to take in groups of foster children, many of them physically or mentally disabled.
The couple has taken in 120 children over the decades.
Eventhough Harvey opened his own business in Spokane, Harvey’s Shop, and worked as a barber for 45 years.
Yet, his most rewarding life achievement was being a foster parent (along with playing the banjo).
