Hannah’s story: One Triad teen’s journey

Most teenagers think they are invincible. Hannah Hume quickly found out she wasn’t. At 18, Hannah learned that she had inherited a gene mutation from her parents that leads to developing a very aggressive form of cancer. The cancer claimed Hannah’s mother and twin sister. “It’s a very rare cancer, just a few cases in the country,” says Dr. Thomas Russell, Hannah’s pediatric oncologist at Brenner Children’s Hospital.
