The 25th annual Mayberry Days – today through the weekend
Fans of The Andy Griffith Show will ‘invade’ Mt Airy to celebrate all things Mayberry. List of events and happenings: http://www.surryarts.org/mayberrydays/index.html

American Pickers – Producers for History Channel’s American Pickers will be ‘scouting out’ North Carolina including the Triad over the next two weeks.
*The American Pickers (producers) are looking for large collections of unique items, but you must be willing to sell. (NO retail companies or stores)
The show hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz love to scour through barns, basements, attics, sheds and garages to find their next great ‘find’.
Think your ‘collection’ qualifies? Please email or call American Pickers and leave a message. Details on our Facebook / wbfj and the News Blog at wbfj.fm

Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County has found a new ‘home’ off University Parkway. The non-profit organization is buying the Contract Office Furnishings building and warehouse on west 14th Street and hopes to move in by the end of the year. http://www.habitatforsyth.org/
BTW: The new space is not far from Habitat’s ‘new’ ReStore location now open at the corner of Coliseum and University.

Unexpected heroes? Three inmates hope their actions three weeks ago will change the way most people think of ‘inmate’ work crews.
The men, Michael Martin, Ahmad T. Lewis and Cedric Wilson Jr., sprang into action Sept. 4, saving the life of a driver whose pickup truck had caught on fire along I-40 near Kernersville. Martin, Lewis and Wilson were riding in a DOT vehicle to pick up trash along the highway when they saw a truck on fire.
Wilson said he picked up a fire extinguisher while Lewis and Martin raced to the burning pickup.
“I want people to know that just because the vest says ‘inmate’ on the back doesn’t mean we are bad people. We have just made some bad choices and made some bad mistakes. We are trying to change.”
-Michael Martin, one of the inmates. http://goo.gl/4oMMeM
