 Partial Federal Government shutdown: 14 days and counting with three days to go before the US hits that debt ceiling. Not quite a Million Vet March but those who made their way to Washington, DC over the weekend…did make their voices heard. The mostly conservative crowd, angered by the closure of national landmarks due to the partial government shutdown, removed barricades at the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.  The Tea Party favorites  including former Alaska Gov. Around 400 teens and volunteers from youth groups across North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina spent Saturday cleaning up homes, area shelters and churches in Davidson County. Fire crews responding to a deadly house fire on Rich Hilton Road in Thomasville around 6am this morning. One person lost their life.  Another was taken to Baptist Medical Center.    Fox 8

The NC State Fair in Raleigh starts this Thursday: Among the new food at the State Fair this year will be the “Sloppy Joe Doughnut Burger” featuring a scoop of seasoned ground beef, topped with shredded cheese between a glazed doughnut sliced in half.  The State Fair runs from October 17–27 in Raleigh.
