More than 8-thousand people filled the parking lot at the Greensboro Coliseum yesterday – hoping for a shot at stardom. AND a $5 million recording contract on season two of THE X FACTOR. Greensboro is the fourth of five cities across the country where auditions are being held for next seasons show. The turnout here was the largest so far according to X-Factor producers.
A school bus accident in Wilkes County yesterday afternoon provided parents and students with quite a scare as 12 children and the bus driver were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The accident happened around 3:30PM and the bus was taking students home from Millers Creek Elementary.
Opponents of Amendment One have outraised supporters of the amendment by a nearly 2-to-1 margin heading into the final days of the referendum campaign … that coming from10 times the number of donors contributing from the opposition. Combined – a whopping 3.5 million dollars has been raised on what has become a high-profile vote.

The CDC reports that the percentage of people with asthma rose from seven-point-three percent in 2001 to eight-point-four percent in 2010. That amounts to 25-point-seven million people with asthma in 2010. Of that number, seven million were younger than 18.
Existing Home Sales in the Triad are on the rise…to the extent of a 24% increase from February to March….this nearly matches the 25% jump statewide for the same period.

Like it or not, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association finalized it’s realignment plan yesterday that will go into effect in the 2013-2014 school year: everything is pretty much as proposed with conference moves for Western Guilford, Parkland, H-P Andrews, East Surry, Mt Airy among others…all appeals on the table were turned down… and will decide tomorrow whether non-boarding parochial schools will retain membership in the association.

Avoiding Loan Debt is Crucial – but for some college students, it may be inevitable. While there has been much political speculation about the expected doubling of student loan interest rates effective July 1st, here are some things you need to know: (1) The increase would only affect interest rates for subsidized Stafford loans for undergrad students issued after July 1, 2012. Interest rates for existing loans won’t change. (2) Rates for unsubsidized Stafford loans won’t change. (3) Even if rates rise on July 1, subsidized Stafford loans are generally less costly than private student loans.
