Gas prices are down ‘closer; to the $2 dollar mark.  An expected 35.5 million people will be traveling over the labor day weekend, But, over half of us (68%) will be relaxing at or near home this weekend. –AAA

 You may have heard, McDonald’s will soon offer an all-day (limited) breakfast menu. Good News for some but financial experts are speculating how the change will impact the “egg market” that is already in short supply. Egg prices have risen dramatically in recent months due to a severe outbreak of bird flu. The current national average for a dozen eggs is $2.45. Congrats: The Winston Salem Dash have clinched their first second-half Southern Division championship in three years (with a sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Thursday…and thanks to a loss by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans). Speaking of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Dash will face off against the Pelicans in a best-of-three playoff series starting this Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark (in WS) before traveling to Myrtle Beach for Game 2 on Thursday.   Game 3, if necessary, takes place Friday in Myrtle Beach.   http://goo.gl/3qojun

 

Character counts: A team of researchers at Wake Forest University has received a $3.9 million dollar grant to study why some people have  ‘exceptional moral character’ and how it can be improved. The Templeton Religion Trust will pay for The Beacon Project, a three-year initiative to find (and define) morally exceptional people and try to better understand how to improve moral character.  The grant is among the largest ever received for social-sciences research at Wake Forest.  http://goo.gl/2RtNb8

Publix supermarket chain looking to expand in Clemmons? That’s the buzz.  A site plan submitted to the village of Clemmons on Thursday for a shopping center at the intersection of Lewisville-Clemmons and Peace Haven roads, includes a 49,000-square-foot grocery store, believed to be the site that Publix is considering.  BTW: Publix, based in Lakeland, Florida, is building a store on Miller Street, set to open later in 2016.  http://goo.gl/QwUy1S
