Officials are giving the green flag to racing at Bowman Gray Stadium this Saturday night after ongoing testing showed NO methane detected in structures at Bowman Gray Stadium during tests conducted on Thursday. More testing will take place soon in the soil of neighborhoods to the west of the stadium. Methane is a primary component of natural gas and is likely originating from old landfills active on the site long before the era of environmental regulation. http://goo.gl/EgS867

Live long and recover: Nichelle Nichols, 82, who played Lt. Uhura in the original Star Trek TV series and films, suffered a mild stroke Wednesday night. “Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss, but she is not showing any signs of paralysis.” Interesting: Nichols was a TV rarity when “Star Trek” began in 1966: a black woman in a notable role on a prime-time series. There had been African-American women on TV before, but they often played maids or domestics. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. called it “the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a black woman in television history.” http://goo.gl/bXb5jB
