Update: Hurricane Harvey continues to gain strength in the warm waters of the Gulf off the coast of Texas.   Harvey is expected to make landfall near Corpus Christi before midnight (FRI). Hurricane Harvey is expected to ‘stall out’ over southeast Texas causing widespread flooding through next week.  SOURCE: The Weather Channel

Update: Will Hurricane Harvey cause a spike in gas prices? Likely NOT.  Back in August 2005, Hurricane Katrina caused about a 40-cent increase overnight. We might not know the full impact of Harvey on gas prices in the Triad until Monday.

 

New this morning: Catrina Thompson will be Winston-Salem’s new police chief.

The 23-year veteran of the WSPD will lead a department with 570 sworn officers,173 civilian positions and an annual budget of $74 million.  Thompson will take over as the city’s 15th police chief on Sept. 1st with the retirement of Chief Barry Rountree.  https://goo.gl/i5anh7

 

Less IS better.  The prescribing of antibiotics has dropped significantly in North Carolina (including the Triad) in the past six years.   Note: The overuse of antibiotics is known to cause antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  SOURCE: The Blue Cross association conducted the study

 

Amazon’s takeover of Whole Foods will close on Monday, and its first order of business will be to make some items more affordable.  Some of the items that will be marked down include organic avocados, organic brown eggs, organic salmon, almond butter, organic apples and organic rotisserie chicken. Also, Amazon Prime members will get additional discounts at Whole Foods.
