Fox News: The Supreme Court slams traditional marriage in landmark rulings (UPDATE)

FoxNews.com – The Supreme Court strikes down Defense of Marriage Act benefits provision.   The Supreme Court has ruled 5 to 4 that the federal Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA) is unconstitutional, saying that when it comes to ‘legally married’ same-sex couples are entitled to the same benefits as legally married heterosexual couples.  Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion.  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/06/26/supreme-court-strikes-down-defense-marriage-act-provision/#ixzz2XKgXqWHW

The High Court (in a separate ruling) did not speak to the ‘constitutionality’ of same sex marriage bans in California, or in the country as a whole. The court determined that the defenders of California’s Proposition 8 (which like DOMA, defines a legal marriage as being between a man and woman) did not have the standing to appeal lower court rulings against the ban.  As a result, California is likely to allow same-sex marriages to resume in a matter of weeks.  BTW: 38 states affirm that a legal marriage is between one man and one woman…http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/06/26/supreme-court-strikes-down-defense-marriage-act-provision/#ixzz2XKqupXnH

Most Christians, however, oppose the redefinition of marriage, insisting that it is a union solely between a man and a woman.  Eric Teetsel, executive director of the Manhattan Declaration, a movement of Christians from various denominations with traditional values working to preserve the sanctity of life, marriage and religious liberty, said earlier this week that regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision, conservative Christians need to continue fighting for the culture of marriage and family.  “It took generations to erode marriage and family, with disastrous consequences. Restoration may take just as long,” Teetsel said. “No matter this week’s rulings, we will rededicate ourselves to renewing in American culture the profound beauty, mystery and holiness of faithful marriage. We will be patient in the light of any setbacks. And, in the end, we will succeed – if we do not give up.”  www.christianpost.com/news/supreme-court-strikes-down-key-provision-in-defense-of-marriage-act-98843/

Update: ‘Transgender’ Boy Allowed to Use Girls Restroom?   A Colorado government agency saying that Coy Mathis, a six-year-old boy, has the right to use the girls restroom at an elementary school. The first-grader’s parents, Kathryn and Jeremy Mathis, had accused the school district of being discriminatory. Contrary to the false impression left by news reports this week, the Colorado Civil Rights division did not issue a “ruling” or a “binding order” against the Fountain-Fort Carson School District.  “It has conducted an investigation, and issued a ‘Determination of Probable Cause,’ meaning that there is enough evidence to justify moving ahead to the next step,” said CitizenLink Judicial Analyst Bruce Hausknecht.  That next step will be mandatory mediation between his parents and the school district.  www.citizenlink.com/2013/06/25/government-agency-transgender-boy-allowed-to-use-girls-restroom/
