Some of Baseball’s highest-paid players are facing suspension. Major League Baseball is set to suspend at least 20 professional baseball players in the coming weeks due to a scandal involving performance-enhancing drugs. According to an ESPN report, this is potentially the worst ‘drug abuse case’ in the history of baseball.  http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9301536/major-league-baseball-suspend-20-players-including-alex-rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation

No cell phone use while driving in Chapel Hill. A three-judge panel of the state Court of Appeals saying that the ordinance can be enforced only if an officer first stops a vehicle for another  reason. But doesn’t bar cell calls made from parked vehicles. Fines will be $25 dollars.  http://www.news-record.com/news/local_news/article_06bb2ebc-cdd3-11e2-ad34-0019bb30f31a.html

The psychological evidence is quite clear: using a cell phone while you’re driving is distracting. What’s less clear is whether or not these bans actually reduce road accidents.  Given that mobile technology is fairly new, one study taking a look at texting bans in four states, back in 2010, actually found that accidents increased in those states, compared to neighboring states without the bans. (…perhaps because drivers tried to hide their phones while texting, making the act even more dangerous).  Read more…www.theatlanticcities.com/commute/2013/03/do-texting-bans-really-prevent-fatal-accidents/5104/
