Independent investigation at UNC:
Students NOT attending classes (yet graduating) and automatic A’s and B’s are at the heart of a cheating scandal at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The cover-up lasted nearly 20 years and involving over 3,100 students — nearly half of them athletes. At least nine UNC employees were fired or being disciplined…for being caught?
What will the NC-AA do? Penalties could range from fewer scholarships to vacated wins. Most of the athletes were football players or members of the school’s cherished basketball program, which won three of its five national titles during the scandal (1993, 2005, 2009). http://goo.gl/8hBJGc

Reynolds American Inc. is snuffing out smoking in its offices and buildings.
The nation’s second-biggest tobacco company informed employees Wednesday that beginning next year, the use of traditional cigarettes, cigars or pipes will no longer be permitted at employee desks or offices, conference rooms, hallways and elevators. Lighting up already is prohibited on factory floors and in cafeterias and fitness centers.  Indoor smoking areas will be available for smokers. The use of smokeless tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, moist snuff and pouches will be allowed.   http://goo.gl/Om8Vkm

‘Formal apology’ needed? Law experts in North Korean are requiring a formal apology and formal request from Washington to secure the freedom of two Americans (Matthew Miller and Kenneth Bae) who remain in jail in North Korea. A third American – Jeffrey Fowle – was ‘freed’ by North Korea earlier this week after being detained for six months for leaving a Bible in a nightclub. http://goo.gl/7mEqHR
