“Wager paid”   Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines settled his friendly wager with the mayor of Starksville, Mississippi over that College Bowl game between Wake Forest and Mississippi State last month.    Wake Forest lost that game to MSU…24 – 13.  A sweet treat box of goodies from Dewey’s including sugar cake and ginger cookies were sent…but no pink lemonade cupcakes.  Mayor Joines didn’t believe that they would survive the postal journey to Mississippi.  www.journalnow.com

Tornadoes in January??  A possible tornado ripping through Rutherford and Burke counties (between the cities of Morganton and Hickory) yesterday afternoon around suppertime, topping down trees, snapping power poles and causing significant damage to a mobile home park .   Ten people were injured, with three people being airlifted from the area for medical attention.  AP

The Business School at UNC-G will soon open a student run ‘store’.  The Spartan Trader will be located onSpring Garden Street on the edge of campus.  Students will be able to sell art, jewelry, or whatever else they make themselves in the store.   The hope is that students will focus on sustainable products that are made from things here in the Triad.
