If you would like to vote in the upcoming state primary you need to register by the end of the day on Friday.  Voter registration deadline – Friday (April 13th)

Important dates: One-Stop Early Voting will begin next Thursday, April 19th, and end on Saturday, May 5th.    ‘Absentee ballot requests’ for the Primary Election will be accepted through May 1st (by 5pm).  Several organizations are offering FREE tax preparation for low-income working families. You must send in your tax stuff on or before this Tuesday, April 17th.  Forsyth Working Families Partnership is a group of community agencies working together to help low-income working families earning up to $50,000 dollars a year (individuals earning up to $24,000) get their maximum tax refund, save their refund dollars while learning to spend and invest wisely. www.forsythfreetax.org

SOLD:  The Grove Park Inn – Resort & Spa  has been sold to a private equity company for an undisclosed amount of money. K-S-L Capital Partners plans a $25 million dollar renovation as part of the resort’s 100th anniversary next year.  The Grove Park, which opened back in 1913, was built of granite stones and overlooks the city of Asheville.

Neighborhood ‘watch volunteer’ George Zimmermann has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The confrontation happened back on February 26th in Sanford, Florida.  Zimmerman turned himself into authorities late in the day yesterday. An initial hearing in the case is expected to be held as early as today.  The killing of the 17-year-old has caused a national outcry, sparking protests and calls for Zimmerman’s arrest.   Martin’s mother is urging everyone to remain calm, saying she was confident “justice will be served.”  www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2012/April/Zimmerman-to-be-Charged-in-Trayvon-Martin-Death/

A cow that escaped from a New Jersey meat packing facility will be spared.  An Animal control officer inPaterson,New Jerseytelling a local newspaper that it was like “Dodge  City” with police cars everywhere trying to corral the 750-pound cow. But the cow managed to break loose. The black-and-white runaway cow was finally tranquilized after it became trapped between a fire hydrant and a truck. Cases of dementia are expected to soar in the coming decades as life expectancy and medical care improve in poorer countries, that’s according to the World Health Organization.  Some 35.6 million people were diagnosed and living with dementia in 2010.    

Got voter ID?
