Check the air pressure in your tires. IMAP reporting a rash of flat tires because of the cold weather (NEWS) January 03, 2012

Your WBFJ Family Station Forecast:  Sunny and breezy.  Cold with HIGH only 34 degrees (wind chill in the 20s).

Winter Weather Advisory until noon today for the Northern Mountains. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches this morning for Ashe, Watauga, and Grayson counties.

IMAP is recommending (because of the recent blast of cold weather) that we check the air pressure in our tires after an increase in flat tires around the Triad.  Tires lose air pressure when temperatures get colder, and many drivers don’t realize their tires are low until it’s too late. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-more-flat-tires-frozen-gas-lines-as-cold-sets-in-20120102,0,7510048.story

Allstate Insurance is canceling thousands of homeowners policies, if you don’t also have auto insurance through the company.  46,000 individual policies will be dropped in North Carolina. Allstate decided early in 2011 that it would drop homeowner policies which weren’t bundled with an auto insurance policy, starting with policies that renewed on or after June 19. Affected policy holders were notified by letter two months ahead of time and were given an option of transferring their business to Universal North America.  BTW: N.C. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company is also canceling some 28,000 policyholders as of January 01, 2012.   http://www.news-record.com/content/2012/01/03/article/allstate_canceling_nc_homeowners_policies_not_bundled_with_car_insurance

A 6-year-old boy from Walkertown is expected to make a full recovery after falling into a well yesterday afternoon.  Fox 8 reporting that Mason Kenerly was playing with his cousins when he jumped on top of a concrete ‘well top’, the cover gave way and Mason fell 25 feet to the bottom.  FYI:  Mason is a first grader at Walkertown Elementary School. http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-resue-operation-under-way-in-walkertown-20120102,0,4027654.story

A new state law (for the New Year) requiring teen drivers in North Carolina to write down how many hours they actually drive with their permit before they can move up to the next level of the graduated licensing system. The law requires teenagers with a learner’s permit to have signed logs showing they have driven 60 (or more) hours with an adult driver. Parents or guardians will have to certify the driving logs.  FYI: North Carolina doesn’t require anyone 18 or older getting a driver’s license for the first time to log hours. www.wxii12.com/news/30095359/detail.html#ixzz1iOQmaSoI

All political eyes on Iowa.  The field of six GOP candidates hoping for the Republican nomination for President making a last minute ‘push’ ahead of the Iowa Caucuses later tonight.  FYI: A ‘caucus’ is generally defined as a “gatherings of neighbors.”  Rather than going to a polling booth or casting ballots, Iowans gather at a set location in each of Iowa’s 17-hundred and 74 precincts…meeting in schools, churches, public libraries and even in a person’s home. Since 1972, theIowacaucuses have been the first major electoral event of the nominating process for electing the next President in the US.

Check out movie and music reviews (from a family-friendly, Christian perspective) on the web at www.pluggedin.com/  FYI: Movie ticket sales hit a 16 year low at the Box Office in 2011.  Biggest factors: A weak economy and choices (both in movie selection and options of waiting for the DVD or online streaming).  http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/29/news/economy/movie_ticket_sales/index.htm
