The Salvation Army Family Stores in High Point need your old stuff. Area Salvation Army Family Stores, or “thrift stores”, operate and fund programs through donated items such as clothing, furniture and household items.  In the process of ‘cleaning out”?  You can drop off gently used items at two Family Store Locations in High Point: S. Main Street or Eastchester Drive. Larger items can be scheduled for pick up by calling (336) 881-5424.

The 2012 Summer Olympics in London: Woman’s soccer starts today (WED).  Opening ceremonies begin Friday (tape delayed at 7:30pm) on NBC. Batman actor Christian Bale visited with seven shooting victims at an Aurora,
Colorado hospital yesterday. 
Bale plays Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy.  During his visit, Bale thanked doctors and police officers. Bale and his wife also visited a memorial set up outside the theater.

The Congressional Budget Office issuing a statement yesterday that the recent Supreme Court ruling on the President’s healthcare plan would probably lead to an ‘increase’ in the number of uninsured Americans.  According to the New York Times, the budget office said that of the 33 million people who had been expected to gain healthcare coverage under the law, three to six million fewer individuals are now predicted to get insurance. The court said, in effect, that a large expansion of Medicaid envisioned under the 2010 law was a state option, not a requirement.  RnR

Actor Sherman Hemsley, who made the character George Jefferson famous in “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons”, passed away on Tuesday. The TV sitcon icon was 74 years old.
