Who’s In Control Of The House?
Once again, the November tradition of waiting beyond election day for a full comprehension of the results has transpired – the result being a shift of power in both branches of Congress.

Has God abandoned America? Has America abandoned God? Is this a mandate of discontent? Does anybody even care anymore? While each of these concerns may bear some plausible concern and allow for hours of argumentative debate, as I see it, none are really a correct overview of the events of the past week.

God has relinquished no more control than he did in the election of George Bush in 2000, Bill Clinton in 1992, Harry Truman in 1948 or George Washington in 1788. No doubt that HE still controls the House! And at last check, He was not registered as either a Republican, Democrat or Libertarian.

The issues that surround the recent campaign are no doubt those that surround each of our lives. Many are issues that God is concerned about, but are there higher issues that bring greater concern to the throne of the Father? Which of these give us cause to pursue in the time we are given on this earth?

There is a song (it always comes back to music, doesn’t it?) that I was first introduced to at Marriage Retreat a couple of years ago. Travis Cottrell performed it then…Natalie Grant recorded it on the most recent WOW Worship and there is an awesome rendition on the new Avalon Hymns CD. I know it as the other “In Christ Alone”. The song crescendos into the final verse that reminds us of the hope that is ours in Christ:

No guilt in life, no fear in death:

This is the power of Christ in me.
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
‘Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

WHO IS IN CONTROL OF THE HOUSE?

“…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” Joshua 24:15
