The Interview: Being Persistence and Enthusiasm VS Desperation

Job Coach Randy Wooden (Director of the Professional Center by Goodwill in Winston-Salem) suggests that using a healthy dose of persistence and enthusiasm  is good, where as desperation and stalking a prospective employer is the wrong approach when seeking a new job.

Tips include…

Networking

–   Don’t ask them for a job

–   Don’t “sell” – they’re not “buying”

Cover Letter

Avoid claiming you’re a perfect fit for the job

Following up on your application

–   Call, even if the ad says not to

–   Leave a message, don’t call repeatedly

During the interview

Tell employer you’re there 5 minutes in advance

Body language, handshake, invading one’s space

Questions. Avoid compensation. When can I start

After the interview

Don’t leave without knowing next steps

Call at discussed time or a week after interview
